At The Gateway Family YMCA, we are committed to our members, with Virtual Wellness, Enrichment, Chronic Disease, Family, Youth programs and Social Opportunities for your convenience, anytime and anywhere!

Through YOUR VIRTUAL YMCA, we are providing Live Group Exercise programs.  A YMCA Full Privilege Membership is required.

What to Wear:  Comfortable clothing, Sneakers (exception is Yoga)

What to Bring: An exercise mat is recommended for most classes.  Hand weights, resistance strap/bands are optional.

VIRTUAL PROGRAMS AND SUPPORT

BLOOD PRESSURE SELF-MONITORING PROGRAM (BPSM)

In this Virtual version of the YMCA’s Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program, our staff will assist you through live Zoom nutrition presentations and program discussions, provide email updates and office hours, be available for support, assistance and motivation.  Open to the community at this time.  Registration required.  Multiple days and times offered.  If you can’t join our live discussion times, please join anyway – email and telephone office hours will be available to you!

Research shows that simply checking and recording your blood pressure (BP) twice a month for four months may lower BP for those with high BP.  To qualify for BPSM, participants must be 18+ years of age, have been diagnosed with high BP, not experienced a recent cardiac event or have any arrhythmias or atrial fibrillation.  With BPSM, participants will work with trained staff over a four-month period to improve their self-monitoring skills. Program goals are to reduce and better manage your BP, and enhance knowledge of healthier eating habits. Monthly Nutrition Seminars will highlight healthier eating habits.

DIABETES EMPOWERMENT EDUCATION PROGRAM (DEEP)

DEEP is a 6-week program designed to help participants gain a better understanding of diabetes self -care. Relatives and caregivers are welcome to also attend. Each session is 1.5-2 hours in length, with a class size between 5 – 15 participants. Curriculum includes developing self-care, preventing complications, increasing physical activity, improved nutrition, and utilizing available resources.

COFFEE WITH JODI

Join Jodi Pelano, Branch Executive Director at the Wellness Center Branch for shared discussions, conversation and coffee! Call in to speak with your fellow members and Y staff.  We may be social-distancing but that doesn’t stop us from being social!

Also Available Tea with Jodi – in the afternoon.   Choose your date and time, or register for both!

Y's WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM (WLP)

In this Virtual version of the Y’s Weight Loss program, our staff will assist you through live Zoom nutrition presentations and program discussions, provide email updates, be available for support, assistance and motivation.  Open to the community at this time.  Registration required.  WLP is a group-based twelve week program for adults 18+ years and is designed to empower, encourage and provide the tools needed for success. Weekly topics include balanced eating, physical activity, goal setting, positive psychology and behavior sustainability. Through group work, all participants design personal action plans to achieve their own personal weight loss goals.

HEALTHY WEIGHT AND YOUR CHILD (HWYC)

In this Virtual version of the Healthy Weight and Your Child program, our staff will assist you through live Zoom nutrition presentations and program discussions, provide email updates, be available for support, assistance and motivation.  This is a family-based weight management program for children ages 7 – 13 with obesity.  Both the parent and child are educated HWYC is designed with the entire family in mind. Both the child and parent learn the positive healthy eating and physical activity changes needed to live a healthier life. Each child should be in the 95th percentile of body mass index and be able to receive clearance from a school nurse or healthcare provider if requested.

EXERCISE CONSULTATION Q&A

This is an open conversation about personal fitness program design based on your individual goals and personal starting point.  Suggestions are offered along with potential additional resources.  Our staff is here to assist in your personal achievement.  This virtual program will include live Zoom discussions as well as email support and motivation.

CHILD CARE  – Curriculum, Resources and Links are being provided via email to all participant families registered for our Child Development Centers in Elizabeth (Youth Development Branch) and Union (Five Points Branch).

SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE (SACC) – Curriculum, Resources and Links are being provided via email to all participant families registered for our SACC programs through our Elizabeth (Elizabeth Branch), Rahway (Rahway Branch) and Union (Five Points Branch) programs.

EARLY LEARNING READINESS (ELR) – Curriculum, Resources and Links are being provided via email to all participant families registered to attend our ELR programs at the Elizabeth Branch and Rahway Branch.

SWIM LESSON & SAFETY AROUND WATER (SAW) – Curriculum, Resources and Links are being provided via email  to all participant families registered to attend our Swim Lesson programs – We’ve included a  Coloring Page below

WISE CENTER ADULT SOCIAL DAY SERVICES PROGRAM – Caregiver Support, Links, Resources and Materials are being provided via daily email updates and our Director remains available for all families at this time.
