A. Water Discovery (Ages 6-18 months)
This is your first opportunity to expose your infant or toddler to the wonderful world of water fun and safety. The focus for this class is to ensure your baby’s first swim experience is a positive one by guiding both the parent and the child in basic water orientation.
B. Water Exploration (Ages 19-36 months)
Your infant or toddler will continue to learn about water safety while practicing basic swimming skills and breath control at a higher level of independence.
1. Water Acclimation (Ages 3-5)
For the beginner swimmer to become adjusted and comfortable in the water. Participants will learn to float, perform front and back glides and proper breath control.
2. Water Movement (Ages 3-5)
In this stage, swimmers should be comfortable with their face in the water and able to swim 15-20ft. on their front independently (with flotation for preschool stage). Swimmers will work towards 15yd. on their front with alternating arms, and back floating for 20 seconds (10 secs. for preschool stage).
3. Water Stamina (Ages 3-5)
Students must be able to swim/float/swim for 15yd. and will build the endurance to swim/float/swim 25 yd. throughout the session; swimmers will work on rotary breathing and backstroke.
4. Stroke Introduction (Ages 3-5)
Students must be able to proficiently swim 25yd. (15yd. for preschool stage) of freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers will build the endurance to swim 50yd. (25yd. for preschool stage) continuously and will be introduced to both the breaststroke and butterfly kicks.
5. Stroke Development (Ages 3-5)
Students must be able to swim 50yd. of freestyle and backstroke continuously. During this stage, students work on stroke technique and learn all competitive strokes.
Private Swim Lessons
Experience customized swim lessons with one-on-one attention. Private Swim Lessons cater to an individuals unique needs and goals.
Private Swim Lessons are also offered for a pair of individuals (Duo) or Small Group. Lessons must be scheduled through the Branch Aquatic Director.

In this stage, swimmers should be able to swim 150yd. of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke and will build the endurance to swim 200yd. with proper turns. Throughout the session, stroke technique will be refined and students will discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.
Safety Around Water
Safety Around Water is a free program designed to engage and educate parents about the importance of water safety skills and provide more of America’s youth access to water safety lessons. During the eight-day course, children learn how to respond if they find themselves in unexpected water situations—from how to reach the water’s surface if they submerge—to safely reaching a pool’s edge or exiting any body of water.
Private Swim Lessons

Tweens/Teen Beginner
This class is for those fearful of water or with no knowledge of swimming. Skills taught: Floating, flutter kick, rudimentary front crawl, treading water.
Tweens/Teen Intermediate
Prerequisite: Swimmer must be able to swim 20yds. of rudimentary front crawl and be comfortable in deep water. Skills taught: refining front crawl, back crawl, rudimentary breaststroke, treading water.
Tweens/Teen Advanced
Prerequisite: Swimmer must be able to swim four laps nonstop. This class is designed as a workout and will focus on stroke development, endurance training, butterfly and turns.
Adult Beginner
This class is designed for adults with no knowledge of swimming. Participants will become acquainted with floating, flutter kick, treading water, rudimentary rotary breathing and basic front crawl.
Adult Intermediate
Prerequisite: Swimmer must be able to complete 20yds. of rudimentary front crawl and be comfortable in deep water. Skills taught: refining front crawl, back crawl and treading water.
Private Swim Lessons
Experience customized swim lessons with one-on-one attention. Private Swim Lessons cater to an individuals unique needs and goals.

Single Private Swim Lessons
One-on-one swim lesson that caters to a student’s individual goals. You can choose a package of either 4 or 8- 30-minute lesson. Private lessons must be scheduled with the Aquatic Office.
Duo Private Swim Lessons
Semi-private lesson for two students at the same swim level. You can choose a package of either 4 or 8- 30-minute lesson. Private lessons must be scheduled with the Aquatic Office.
Special Swimmers I (Ages 3-5 Years)
This program is designed for swimmers with special needs. A swim evaluation will take place on the first day to determine correct level placement.
Special Swimmers II (Ages 6-10 Years)
This program is designed for swimmers with special needs. A swim evaluation will take place on the first day to determine correct level placement.
Accessible Water Safety
This program is designed specifically for children with disabilities. Utilizing the Safety Around Water curriculum, essential water safety information and basic swimming skills will be taught, which can open up a world of possibilities for children to satisfy their curiosity safely. Taught by a certified instructor, children will learn two sets of skills that will reduce the risk of drowning and give them confidence in and around water.
Adaptive Swim Lessons
Adaptive Swim Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of small group participants of all levels of ability and special needs. In this small group setting, our specialized instructors will provide an introduction to essential elements of water safety and basic swimming skills for all. Based on the foundation of Safety Around Water (SAW) curriculum, the goal of Adaptive Swim Lessons is to minimize fear of the water, learn basic water safety and improve basic swimming skills through in-water instruction. This program is partially sponsored by a grant from the USA Swimming Foundation. *upon registration you will be contacted by the Aquatics Department to discuss your child’s individuals needs

Credit/Voucher Policy: Credits can only be offered for a program or membership due to an extended illness or emergency. A doctor’s note and request in writing is required. Credits expire at the end of one year. Refunds cannot be given for programs or membership. All credit requests will be subject to a $10 processing fee.
Make-up classes are only provided when the YMCA closes for emergency pool closures (ie inclement weather).
