The Gateway Family YMCA Healthy U Programs Combat Childhood Obesity
The Y wants families to understand how adopting healthy habits can help reduce childhood obesity
Many families need support changing their families’ habits with the ultimate goal of being a healthy weight. That’s why The Gateway Family YMCA wants families to improve eating habits and increase physical activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity affects one in six children in the U.S. and one in three are overweight, which poses greater risks for many health problems such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and some cancers. Here in New Jersey nearly 1 in 4 children are overweight or obese according to the Data Resource Center for Child & Adolescent Health.

The Gateway Family YMCA Invites the Community to Open House September 23

COMMUNITY PARTNERS SUPPORT THE GATEWAY FAMILY YMCA

Joanne Rajoppi, Union County Clerk, presented a generous donation to The Gateway Family YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign at their Association Office in Elizabeth, NJ. The $4,000 donation was presented to Krystal R. Canady, CEO and Melynda A. Mileski, EVP/COO of The Gateway Family YMCA, and will provide funding to the Y’s Annual Support Campaign which provides financial assistance to the local community for membership, programs and YMCA services.

NATIONAL SENIOR HEALTH AND FITNESS DAY

The Gateway Family YMCA joins an estimated 1,000 local groups to celebrate the 24th Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day (NSHFD) on May 31st, 2017. As an official host site, the Y will hold information sessions and community classes on the 31st centered on the theme, “With Movement…There’s Improvement!” On this day, The Gateway Family YMCA will join with an estimated 100,000 seniors across the country expected to help promote active, healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, good nutrition and preventive care. COUNTY HEALTH RANKINGS ANNOUNCED

2017 County Health Rankings Announced at The Gateway Family YMCA

On March 29, 2017, the 2017 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps were released at an event at The Gateway Family YMCA – Elizabeth Branch, 135 Madison Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ. Local community organizations shared their collaborative efforts to create a Culture of Health within New Jersey.
